Portland approves bike sharing program

The Portland City Council has voted to approve a bike-sharing program that would draw from two million dollars in federal funding.

Portland is following the lead of a dozen major U-S cities that have had success with similar automated community bicycle programs, which make bicycles available to the public for a fee.

KBOO's Jenn Chavez spoke with Gerik Kransky, advocacy director with the Portland-based Bicycle Transportation Alliance, who testified before the City Council in support of the program.

He shed some light on how a bike-sharing program in Portland will work.
