On today's show, we welcome Nancy Townsley, author of the new novel Sunshine Girl from Heliotrope Books. Nancy’s work has appeared in Newsweek, Hippocampus, The Big Smoke, Nailed magazine, the Timberline Review, Elephant Journal, and several anthologies. Sunshine Girl is her debut novel, inspired by her 38 years as a newspaper reporter and editor. Nancy lives here in Portland, in a floating home along the Multnomah Channel.

In the words of writer Suzy Vitello, Sunshine Girl is “a rare, up-close view of mass media, the financial collapse of print journalism, and the post-truth era of clickbait news.” And Laura Stanfill calls the book “a powerful piece of fiction that honors the art of truth-telling.”

If you’re in the New York area, Nancy will be reading and signing books at Unnameable Books in Brooklyn, Friday May 9th at 7PM. And she’ll be back in Portland on Sunday June 15th at Rose City Book Pub, in conversation with Rene Denfeld.
