On Thursday, July 21 the Peltier Justice Ride woke up in Ramsey, Illinois and made their way to Ohio. KBOO reporters Christopher Francisco and Brent Georgeson decided to go on a detour to Cleveland, Ohio where the Republican National Convention has been taking place since Monday. They were hoping to catch up with Amnesty International present at the convention as human rights observers, monitoring the protests taking place in the streets of Cleveland and the response of the security personnel. For years, Amnesty International has been bringing attention to the case of Leonard Peltier and currently has a campaign and petition on their website asking President Obama to grant clemency to Leonard Peltier. Today the Peltier Justice Ride is traveling all the way from Ohio to Washington DC. Tomorrow morning, Saturday, July 23 at 9:00AM the caravan will park in front of the White House, located 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue where the riders will hold a prayer vigil for everyone to join. Complete Executive Clemency for Leonard Peltier is what they will be praying for. A vigil will also take place on Sunday, July 24 to continue to spread awareness for the case of Leonard and encourage everyone to contact President Obama and urge him to grant Peltier clemency.
The Peltier Justice Ride will make a stop in Philadelphia to the Democratic National Convention on Monday before they travel the 3000 miles road back to Oregon.
