Mental Health Care Not Policing
Host Emma Lugo visits with Buckley and Maria from Critical Resistance Portland to talk about the Mental Health Care Not Policing campaign CR is currently engaged in.  Critical Resistance is a national prison abolition organization started over 20 years ago.  CR Portland is the newest local chapter. CR PDX is currently working on strategies to interrupt the police as first responders to mental health crisis.  From Christopher Kalonji to Keaton Otis the police have a long history of responding to mental health crisis through the first use of deadly force. Critical Resistance is interested in working with community partners to pursue strategies which involve alternatives without also pushing people into the mental health care incarceration complex which can be just as damaging and criminalizing as county or state jail.  Buckley and Maria will discuss the campaign and upcoming meetings with CR PDX.
