On Saturday, Portland joined with cities all over the world to rally in support of Palestinians. Last week Israel and Hamas agreed to a ceasefire, halting the eleven days of attacks that have killed at least 248 people in Gaza, including 66 children. Twelve people in Israel, including two children, were killed as well. Saturday was the 73rd anniversary of the Nakba, or near-total destruction of Palestinian society by Israel in 1948. Hundreds of people gathered and marched in downtown Portland demanding an end to the Israeli occupation of Palestine. KBOO’s Isobel Charle has more.
Portland activists have created a petition to urge the city council to break ties with companies who have a record of human right’s violations. Find more information at bit.ly/portlandpalestine.
