A trailer themed trailer for the upcoming program “Quentin’s Friends And Tarantino’s Inspirations”
in Grindhouse Film Fest Of The Last Hour
Features samples and songs from the original line up of Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez Motion Picture Duo known as Grindhouse.
Quentin and Robert came up with the idea of releasing two movies for the price of one in an era where exploitative movies were of the normal occasion.
The Term itself is a variety coined term from old delapitated movie theaters in larger cities such as Kansas City or New York that showed double or triple features of movies with a very blurred subject matter such as horror, sexploitation nurse, cheerleader or possibly "blacksploitation" movies.
Quentin threw many film fests at his own house and also every year at Austin's Alamo Draft House, thus his friend and movie director Robert Rodriguez (Desperado, Machete) coined the idea to make a Grindhouse double feature themselves. Robert's zombie horror movie was to play first entitled "Planet Terror" with Tarantino's to be second, known only as "Dearh Proof" a movie about a psychotic stuntman that kills with his "death proof" vehicle.
They soon asked their own friends and movie producers and or directors to create "mock trailers" with the most well known that actually did become a three time sequel called "Machete."
The other players that they asked to create the trailers were Rob zombie trailer: Werewolf Women Of the SS" Eli Roth: Thanksgiving, Robert Rodriguez: Machete, Eisner: Hobo With A Shotgun, Wright: Don't,
My initial idea was to have a single program featuring the music of Quentin Tarantino and his movies.
But as I was tracking it down it soon became evident in my own opinion (to myself) that everyone knows these songs and parts from the movies and it just really didn't feel original to me at all. As some time went by I kept thinking of Quentin's interview where he had mentioned that he worked in a VHS rental store before Reservoir Dogs was released. And just how cool that was to me, He explains in the interview that he would hold his own little film festival's and showcase specific movie genre's such as spaghetti western or "heist" movies. He also talks a lot of how he borrows from a lot of other producers and directors but tries to re invent genre's or at least to make it be his own. And then I knew that the show was to be called Quentin's Friends - Tarantino's Inspirations and two hours was just not enough time to put so much content into the creation of it the way that I picture it to be. It was then decided to be two, two hour programs hence the snippy title, and I will promote these programs with the Grindhouse theme.
In between the two Quentin programs I will have yet another promotional program aimed towards Tarantino's Inspirations.
All I can say is that there is snippets from all of those trailers and also features a section from "Chillerama" and the last 35-40 minutes of the program is half Planet Terror and Half Death Proof.
Gor some odd reason I just couldn't get a couple Amon Tobin songs out of my head during the recording of this program so they both made it to the cut as mixes with sections from both movies.
This was fun. I know that you'll enjoy it if you're open minded and appreciate abstract art. I truly hope that you do enjoy my work at the end of the day, and if you don't well it's "The Last Hour" anyways and I frankly don't give a HOOT hoot.
love, respect
