On this episode of The Gap hosts Althea and Tammy do a news round up talking about the chain of events that lead us to Ted Wheeler's emergency order which will further displaces unhoused folx by banning them from camping near high way. Instead of humane, sustainable, safe solutions, Sam Adams suggested that our unhoused neighbors be placed in shelters which will each house 3000 people (1000 people in each building.) These “shelters” will be on city-owned land or use eminent domain to use privately owned land. Adams also recommends hiring unarmed Oregon National Guard “security specialists,” medical personnel, and graduate students from Portland State University’s social work program to help manage the sites-- needless to say no one at City Hall was impressed by this plan. See below for the articles referenced in the show.
for the second part of the show we open up the phone lines to hear what callers think about NYC Mayor's Eric Adam's decision to want to ban Drill music from social media (after his son recently showed him what drill music is....can we say Tipper Gore part 2?! )
All this and more on- THE GAP!
