Please join us for Transpositive on KBOO Community Radio on Tuesday, March 28th as we interview Transpositive co-host Gigi Cassel, founder of the Portland Transgender Community on Facebook. Gigi will be discussing her recent trip to the Transgender District in San Francisco and talk about the herstory behind the formation of the Transgender District, as well as her visit to city Hall in San Francisco, and the Castro. Gigi will share with us her vison for Trans Visibility on our annual Transgender Day of Visibility show. We will also be joined by co-hosts Nicolette, Sheila and Emma.
International Transgender Day of Visibility is an annual event occurring on March 31 dedicated to celebrating transgender people and raising awareness of discrimination faced by transgender people worldwide, as well as a celebration of their contributions to society. The day was founded by US-based transgender activist Rachel Crandall-Crocker of Michigan in 2009 as a reaction to the lack of LGBT recognition of transgender people, citing the frustration that the only well-known transgender-centered day was the Transgender Day of Remembrance, which mourned the murders of transgender people, but did not acknowledge and celebrate living members of the transgender community.
Transpositive is a biweekly program in Portland exploring themes important to those who identify as Transgender, Gender Non-Binary, and Gender Non-Conforming. Transpositive tries to connect listeners with the ongoing activist, arts, culture, and dialogue happening in Portland and beyond. Make your voice heard! Transpositive PDX is open to new and experienced programmers, guests, and events you want our community to know about. We are an open collective. Anyone who identifies as trans, gender non-binary, gender fluid is welcome to be part of our collective after completing some basic free radio training.
