Please join us on Tuesday, January 16th at 6:00 pm for Transpositive PDX on KBOO Community Radio 90.7fm as we talk with Nicolette, Jean, Sheila and Emma about Transgender current events in the news. This month we will be discussing the murder of Meghan Riley Lewis, a transgender woman in Baltimore, Maryland who was murdered by a food service driver who misgendered her and then shot her and claimed self-defense. He is currently charged with 2nd-degree murder and is free on bond. We will also discuss new legislative bills introduced in Florida that would eliminate gender from all public documents and erase any statewide documentation that acknowledges that transgender people exist. Finally, we will discuss transgender candidate Arienne Childrey who was running for the Ohio state house until the state disqualified her from the ballot because she refused to list her dead name on the ballot. Childrey pointed out that married women are not required to list their former name before they were married when running for office and a transgender woman should not be required to list the name she was assigned at birth just to run for office in Ohio.
