Joe Clement reports on the struggle for a living wage at Fort Vancouver Regional Libraries (FVRL), connecting their issues to other library systems in the area and beyond. Show your support today today by signing the FVRL workers' petition.
In the report, Joe reads from the Northwest Labor Press and shares public comments made at the latest FVRL board meeting. They draw a connection to the library privatization firm Library Systems and Services - where new FVRL Executive Director Jennifer Giltrop most recently served as Chief Library Officer - referring to two expose pieces in Truth Out and Literary Hub. Also considered are echos of class struggle in FVRL's sibling library system of Multnomah County, where the library director Vailey Oehkle is retiring in the midst of a modernization project that promises to squeeze labor, and after two scathing County auditor reports about staff morale and well-being in the last few years since issuing controversial layoffs.
