Please join us on Monday, May 6th at 6:30 pm for Prison Pipeline on KBOO Community Radio as we talk with Greg Smith, an educator, musician, and creator of Inside Voices United whose goal is to visit prisons and help prisoners through songwriting workshops and recording music written and performed by adults in custody.
Inside Voices United is a program that raises up the voices of adults in custody by highlighting the work of singers, songwriters, and storytellers. Songwriters have always been at the forefront of defining who we are as individuals and as a nation. There are songwriters and storytellers in prison as well. And like those artists on the outside, they are observers who distill the human condition into song. A prison is a community, similar in some ways to the communities on the other side of the walls that surround it. While recognizing that there is a myriad of reasons for incarceration, we are better as a people and as a nation when we strive to give hope and a voice to the voiceless and to lift ourselves and others.
Prison Pipeline is a radio program dedicated to educating the public about the Oregon criminal justice system. Our goal is to present a unique understanding of the criminal justice system, address the root causes of crime, and challenge the status quo. We seek to promote awareness and activism to foster a safe, healthy, and just society. Tune in every Monday at 6:30 P.M. to hear our hosts Karen James, Adam Carpinelli, Emma Lugo, and Doug McVay explore the Oregon justice system with a variety of guests.
