Today we fall under the enchanting spell of one of my favorite subgenres: '60s folkies with orchestral accompaniment, or what's sometimes referred to as Baroque Folk. Rather than a scattershot approach, we'll immerse ourselves in five cherished albums of the period: an original rock 'n' roller reinventing himself as a folkie; a celebrated interpretive singer first emerging as a songwriter herself; a pop band's lead vocalist transitioning to a solo career; and a matched pair of Dylan-indebted singer songwriters, from either side of the Atlantic. A mostly meditative, ballad-heavy, 90-minute trip back to the heady '60s... with strings!
