Dare to care: compassion in action

Risking Compassion: daring to care

A year ago, religious scholar Karen Armstrong and religious leaders from around the world created the Charter for Compassion – an affirmation of the Golden Rule as the only clear path to a peaceful world.   The Golden Rule—treat others as you would like to be treated—is at the heart of every major religion. Yet fear, hate speech and violence still fuel much of human interaction.  “People want to be compassionate”, says Armstrong, “but they don’t know how to go about it”.  Why is compassion so hard?   We'll explore how we can begin to mend the world on a global and interpersonal level through the  practice of compassion.   www.charterforcompassion.org  Guests include:

Sister Joan Chittister, an activist and author of  Called to Question and Scarred by Struggle, Transformed by Hope.   "This is not a pious and pretty little topic," says Sister Joan in this provocative interview.

Rev. Kate Lore, Social Justice Minister, First Unitarian Church in Portland.
