Poets Joseph Soldati and David Hedges

Talking Earth
Monday Night June 20
10-11 PM

The light and the dark: Poets Joseph Soldati and David Hedges, two friends whose work is very different, talk with and read to host Barbara LaMorticella.

Soldati is a Vietnam Veteran who came back from war a pacifist. He is active in Veterans Peace organizations and serves on the Board of the Friends of William Stafford. About his newest book, On Account of Darkness, will be released from Finishing Line Press this month. About it, Don Colburn writes "Readers familiar with (Soldati's) wit and exuberance will find those here, but in muted tones. These worldwise poems are shadowed by grief and war, separation and loss, landfills and other graves," and "shine through their dark matter with a clean, sharp beauty."

Hedges is a political gadfly ;who for some 30 odd years hopped around between public relations, advertising, journalism and politics, writing creatively in his spare time. Tonight he reads from his fifth chapbook, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to a Geology Degree, out soon from Finishing Line Press. About it, X.J. Kennedy writes: “Here’s a heartening, hilarious, and hugely enjoyable saga drawn from the experience of dropping out of college into poetry.”
