Words & Pictures for January 2014

Words & Pictures kicks off its 11th season on the air with a visit from local artist, writer, musician and small-press maven Nicole Georges.  From helping found the Portland Zine Symposium to teaching at the Rock & Roll Camp for Girls, Nicole has had a dramatic and lasting impact on local DIY culture.

Nicole's long-running zine Invincible Summer gained a widespread following and led to a series of book collections.  And now, her fearless and funny graphic memoir Calling Dr Laura has drawn raves from the likes of Rachel Maddow, Carrie Brownstein, and Alison Bechdel.

Nicole took a break from her year as the Resident Fellow at Vermont's Center for Cartoon Studies to make a live appearance in the KBOO studios with S.W. Conser.
