Celebrating 75 Years of Blue Note Records on Astral Traveling
Blue Note records known as the launching pad for some of the most influential names in Jazz history. From the likes of Miles Davis, John Coltrane to the funky sounds of Lou Donaldson and the Hip Hop sample heavy arrangements of the Mizell Brothers. We'll be bringing out the dusted licorice pizza and feeding the airwaves as we celebrate 75 years of this amazing homegrown delight we call Blue Note Records!!

and we can't forget that al green recorded at least three albums for the label, and madlib released a jazz album as well. there are artists like norah jones and diana krall who have recorded for the label. folks like tone loc and joe jackson were inspired by album covers the label put out.

speaking of the mizell brothers- for alphonso to come out of the corporation (with freddie perren and crew) and a certain motown formula; to work with his brother at blue note... that was certainly a step in the right direction. their work was prolific to the label, and took a lot of chances, at the risk of being snubbed by traditionalists. van gelder was one of the greatest engineers of all time (rivalling bruce swedien in my opinion), and even after his rein, the label's output still sounded crisp.

the label has had quite a history (with its acquisitions and changes in management); despite this, it's the only label of that calibur i can think of that has consistently put out good material to this day.

we've done some blue-note themed shows before, and we're glad the tradition is continuing! yaaay!
