Somewhere between 'the best Grateful Dead show ever' and 'most overrated Grateful Dead show ever' lies Cornell, May '77.
To consider this (really truly astonishing) show as brilliant in isolation, as if the rest of the Spring 1977 East coast tour was lame, only reveals one's ignorance about the rest of tour.
It included 25 other shows, split almost equally before and after Cornell. Most of the May shows have been / will soon be officially released, as well as two of the April shows. But there's a cluster of shows from The Palladium (NYC) nestled in the midst of all this which haven't been, and are not scheduled to be released, despite some excellent playing. Today's show is a compilation from those Palladium gigs.
