We have lost two top jazz musicians this month:
Portland pianist Mark Simon and Drmmer and Vocalist Grady Tate.
We'll remember them both today.
Mark was a two-time studio guest, first
remembering Eddie Wied's, and Mark's own,
days performing at the late Jazz Quarry.
The second was 3 years back, playing live,
with 3 other Portland pianists on KBOO's then "new" piano
donated to the station by pianist Mac Potts.
Grady went from being a top in-demand drummer
on the national stage to a second career
as a fine jazz vocalist.
From 2:30 to 3:30 we'll preview the LA Jazz Institute's
celebration of Gerry Mulligan's full musical life,
coming up the last weekend of October.
:Jazz Current Events at 3:30 focuses of the still-full
Portland jazz music scene.
