Joëlle Léandre is a double bassist, vocalist, and composer active in new music and free improvisation.  Leandre counts John Cage among her close mentors and has remained under-acknowledged for the amount -- and quality -- of her work since she began recording in 1981. Léandre has performed and recorded with many of the best, and most interesting, musicians in improvised music, including Derek Bailey, Anthony Braxton, Irene Schweizer, William Parker, Steve Lacy, Lauren Newton, Fred Frith, and John Zorn.  Among many others. She was born in France and currently lives in Paris.
