Please join us this Tuesday at 6pm on Transpositive PDX on KBOO Community Radio for our Pride Edition! It is June and it is the season of Pride. This year there is a plethora of Pride events, festivals and marches to choose from. Whether you are going to the Radical Queer Pride, Trans Pride, Dyke March, T Party or the Pride March we are all celebrating our unique diversity and our rich and tapestried communities of inclusion, desire and joy - honoring our achievments and remembering why we still need to gather and resist. Starting our show will be Trans Choir Key of Q to perform in studio, then we will be joined by author Susan Stryker and Debra Porta of NW Pride, as we talk about Pride, the NW Pride Festival and Trans and Queer history and why we celebrate our Trans, Queer, Non-Binary, LGBTQIA* Pride, looking forward and remembering the past.

Susan Stryker is Associate Professor of Gender and Women's Studies, as well as Director of the Institute for LGBT Studies; she also holds a courtesy appointment as Associate Professor in the Norton School of Family and Consumer Sciences. She is the author of many articles and several books on transgender and queer topics, most recently Transgender History (Seal Press 2008). She won a Lambda Literary Award for the anthology The Transgender Studies Reader (Routledge 2006), and an Emmy Award for the documentary film Screaming Queens: The Riot at Compton's Cafeteria (Frameline/ITVS 2005). She currently teaches classes on LGBT history, and on embodiment and technology. Research interests include transgender and queer studies, film and media, built environments, somatechnics, and critical theory.

Debra Porta has served as the President of Pride NW and helped to organize the Pride Parade and Festival. NW Pride is the sponsoring organization for The Portland Pride festival which is the single, largest visibility for the LGBTQ Community in Portland. Pride Northwest also works to celebrate and support the whole of the Pacific Northwest’s LGBTQ community year-round.

Key of Q is part of Transpose - a gender-affirming, non-auditioned community choir that seeks to empowers its members by creating a brave space to expand musical skills, develop a sense of identity, and center their voices in song. Key of Q is a smaller auditioned a cappella group. Founded with a vision of creating a portable group that could easily travel, they perform with Transpose on a regular basis as well as participate in outreach opportunities.
