Hello to my jazz friends,
I look forward to this show every year.
The late KBOO alum, and first president of The Jazz Society of Oregon, Homer Clark, started this tradition in the 1970s
on Uncle Homer's Jazz Hole Cover. Excerpts from Homer's 1982 show, with his music and humor, will be included.
Hope you'll tune in and enjoy.
It is with great sadness that I tell you of the passing today of my close friend Don Alberts.
Don was a jazz pianist of the highest order, as well as a writer and poet.
His book "Diary of the Underdogs" - a History of Jazz in San Francisco in the 1960s", a collection of oral histories,
is highly recommended.
Don, a Bay Area native and resident, had a whole other life in jazz in Portland from 1969 to 1989, when he returned to the Bay Area
after delighting us appearing at Portland jazz clubs and as a jazz radio host on KKUL-AM 1410.
Rest in peace, Don.
You were a bad cat.
