Our discussion will feature 2 guest, Charletta Malone and Donna Hammond, is in regards to the annual Dr. Charles Drew Blood Drive, scheduled for June 15, 2019. Blood donations will start at 7:30 am and will conclude at 1:00 pm. Sister Malone is the coordinator of the Dr. Charles Drew annual blood drive, is an Executive Associate in the Medical Department and is also a member of the American Red Cross Umoja Steering Committee. This year marks the 14th annual drive. Sister Malone is a 30 year career employee with the American Red Cross. Our discussion will highlight the principle goal of the drive set by the Red Cross Umoja Resource Group, “To Increase Minority Blood Donation" while also maintaining Sickle Cell Anemia in the forefront of health care conversations. The Dr. Charles Drew Community Blood Drive is one of the ways to achieve that goal. Sister Donna Hammond, a Business Representative of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers will discuss her dedication for the blood drive over the past 14 years and its importance to the Portland community. Sister Hammond is quickly becoming a household icon demonstrating her passion for Portland and was a recent subject of the Redefining Alberta play that debuted on May 25th, 2019. The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers union has been a consistent supporter of the annual blood drive. The blood drive will take place at the American Red Cross Portland Donor Center located at 3131 N. Vancouver Ave.
