Pastures of Plenty August 7, 2019
Samusson and Tomassi had great lyrics and harmonies. I think "The Stories of Your Life" is their strongest recording. Todd Samusson is still folking around Portland- he sings in the chorus on Avery Hill's "The Work I Do", along with Anne Weiss and Ramana Weist.
I attended Pickathon for the first time this year with guide par excellance Diane Hunt, a veteran of many Pickathons who sits in the big chair for Folk Espresso first and fourth Mondays. Great festival! I played songs from 4 of this years performers.
Hard to believe Woodstock was 50 years ago! What an eventful year 1969 was: First humans on the Moon, Woodstock, Hurricane Camille. The brilliant interpretation of "Get Together" compensates for the poor audio of Nick Drake's home recording. Joni Mitchell-phile Ed Melnick- third Wednesday Pastures of Plenty host- turned me on to Swedish duo Good Harvest, who gave us this breath taking version of Joni's "Woodstock".
NYC based Nefesh Mountain does Jewish bluegrass- and extremely well. The core of Eric Linberg and Doni Zasloff occasionally throw in lyrics in Hebrew, as here in the exciting "A Mighty Roar", from their 2018 recording "Beneath the Open Sky". They were complimented on this recording by great musicians like Jerry Douglas, Tony Trischka, and Sam Bush. By the way, Nefesh means soul in Hebrew.
I found "Nasty Man" by Joan Baez on You Tube, where so much great music can be found.
