Thank you Brandon for being human while all around U.S. algorithms and marketing schemes prevail. I'd never listened or read much of David Berman's work. Yet listening to your commemoration of his apparent suicide yesterday in a week of more gun mayhem from Gilroy, CA through Western Canada to Northern Manitoba down to El Paso WalMart & the Oregon District of Dayton, Ohio, with your moving memorial also to Celibate Rifles band writer & yoga teacher Damien Lovelock's death by cancer earlier this week as though these days are not tense and insecure enough in the panic to earn enough during our 50th year of national Wage StagNation to make the rent and SNAP food stamps being cut for those cut back to part time hours at minimum wage gigs.

The onslaught from all sides in this wealthiest of nations in which all media every day proclaim "Economic Miracles" and "Lowest Unemployment Rate in History" gas-lighting those of us, who, as James McMurtry has sung since 2006 "Can't Make It Here Anymore" and are left without even a broadcast voice of the Wage Slave allowed anywhere near a live mic or newspaper press, further gas-lighting U.S. well, you just keep on doing, witnessing, offering voice of solidarity even when unsteady from overwhelming emotional states, Brandon...

The just released Purple Mountains track with Elliot Smith's "Happiness" and Bettye LaVette's "You Don't Know Me At All" followed by the Celibate Rifles' "Back in the Red" and Kristin Hersh's "Gazebo Tree" later in the set with the live Jethro Tull track sent me to David Berman's Wikipedia page and No Depression Magazine online obit that a dear friend who has long battled clinical and family based depression and was also moved by your DRINKING FROM PUDDLES broadcast here on KBOO sent me a link to. David Berman's 'estrangement' from his Dad the corporate caliphate lobbyist for Big Alcohol, Tobacco and Pharma becomes even more poignant in context of younger Berman's own struggles to lead an indie life.

Keep on doing & being P-R-E-S-E-N-T-E! May those passing on remain present through their works in spirit too as an ongoing blessing and comfort...
