Fast food workers and teachers are in revolt, should Amazon workers be next?

Michael is joined once again by new co-host Elliott Gilliland for a two-part discussion of recent developments in the labor movement and news stories that need to be heard by the working class.

Part 1

  • In the last few years, the Pacific Northwest has been a hotbed for labor organizing within the fast-food industry. The latest front in that battle has been opened by the Burgerville Workers Union, who recently went on strike. Michael and Elliott explain the union's demands and discuss the larger #BoycottBurgerville campaign. Visit boycottburgerville.com for more info and to get involved.
  • Next, the guys provide an update about the ongoing Chicago Teachers Union strike.

Part 2

  • This latest edition of the recurring "Amazon Watch" segment describes a new report from the National Council for Occupational Safety and Heath that places Amazon on a list of the most dangerous employer in the US. Along with that, the New York Committee for Occupational Safety and Health published a recent report describing an extremely dangerous work environment and "production-obsessed culture" at Amazon's Staten Island fulfillment center. The Committee's recommendation: allow the workers to unionize!
