Portland’s changed a lot since 1924, but there’s been at least one constant, besides those rusty downtown drinking fountains – our own homegrown orchestra, the Portland Youth Philharmonic. PYP will be opening their 96th season this Saturday, November 9th, at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall. They’ll be performing two pieces by American composers -- George Gershwin’s “Piano Concerto” and Amy Beach’s “Gaelic Symphony” – in addition to Brazilian composer Oscar Lorenzo Fernández’s “Batuque”.
In what’s become a very joyful tradition for us here at KBOO, we welcome David Hattner to tell us more about the opening concert of PYP’s 96th season. o tell us more about the opening concert of PYP’s 96th season.
