I will be hosting A Different Nature this coming Monday, Feb. 10 for the final time (at least as part of the regular rotation). Since the passing of the program's creator and long time host Richard Francis in 2009, a group of us have kept A Different Nature alive and vibrant. It's been a real honor to be part of this group, but time for moving on...
My first on-air experience at KBOO was on Earth Day in 1998. I was invited by Daniel Flessas to participate in a project Richard Francis had organized, wherein all regular programming was suspended for a full 24-hours, during which we played only natural sounds from environments around the planet. Later that year, Richard had me as a guest on A Different Nature, playing my own music. And so, for my last show as a host, I have decided again to play music of my own creation from the 1990s - music made with kalimbas, metallic objects, sampled gamelan instruments, etc. plus electronics.
Do continue to tune in to A Different Nature in the weeks, months, and years to come, as Dr. Zomb, Alejandro Ceballos, Kathy Fors, Rolf Sembrebon, Rich Lindsay, and Chris Merrick keep the experimental soundscape flowing.
