Wildfire evacuations in Oregon have become a major concern, often in communities where high fire risk is rather rare. The question of where to go, and how to get loved ones to safety is at the forefront of many minds. But what if you also had 80 goats to content with?
That's the situation goat farmer Andrew Voss and his family found themselves in earlier this week. The route to the typical safe haven for livestock in fire danger, the Clackamas Fairgrounds, was in greater fire danger than Estacada, where Voss and his family reside. In search of a way to protect their goats, Voss found aid from a phone call. The call was from a man Voss didn't know, Gary, and he worked to move the goats and to find them some place safe from the fires.
KBOO's Althea Billings brings us the story.
