We set the wayback machine to a very entertaining visit with one of American cinema's most inventive sound designers

In this freewheeling 2007 conversation from Portland's Platform Animation Festival, Bill Dodge and S.W. Conser sit down with seven-time Academy Award-winning sound designer Gary Rydstrom, whose film credits include Jurassic Park, Titanic, Terminator 2, and Saving Private Ryan.

At the time, Gary had recently jumped from his sound console into the director’s chair at Pixar to create the animated short “Lifted.”  He shares stories about finding soundtrack material in the strangest of places, learning how to tell a story without words, creating the anatomy of a space alien character, and paying tribute to one of Hollywood's greatest sound effects — the "Wilhelm Scream."
