Internet companies scoop up a lot of data on their users. The saying goes, if you're not paying for the product -- you are the product. And the outcome isn't just specifically targetted ads. It can also result in behavioral control and serious threats to democratic norms.

KBOO's Althea Billings speaks with progressive radio host Thom Hartmann, who is the author of the new book, The Hidden History of Big Brother in America: How the death of privacy and the rise of surveillance threaten us and our democracy. The book launches at Powell's on Tuesday, March 8th at 5 p.m.
