Single Payer Health Care in -- The Affordable Health Care for All Oregon Act

Isn't it time we acknowledge health care as a right?  What could possibly make it alright for there to be a profit motive in health care?  Why should we endlessly capitulate to the private insurance industry?  Why do people go without essential preventative care, while the executives take home millions of dollars? And why have we put up with this for so long?

There is a growing movement that is asking these sorts of questions.  This weekend US Representative John Conyers will be the keynote speaker at The Oregon Single Payer Conference.  The Conference takes place on Saturday, January 29th, 8:30 am - 4:30, at The First Unitarian Church in downtown Portland (at SW 12th & Main). The Conference will address new tactics for Single Payer advocates to gain public attention. There will be sessions that focus on moving theory into action, converting citizen activists into effective community advocates, and reviewing resources available to enhance these advocacy efforts.

Currently, State Rep. Michael Dembrow and State Senator Chip Shields are introducing the "Affordable Health Care for All Oregon Act".  And California, Pennsylvania, and Vermont also have pending legislation promoting single payer alternatives.

Dr. Paul Gorman joined Ani and Lyn in the studio on 1-28-11.  Paul is a member of Mad as Hell Doctors and Physicians, and he is working hard to educate the public about the Single Payer model.
