Hiroshima Day is commemorated around the world annually in honor of survivors of the US atomic bombing of Hiroshima on August 6th, 1945 and Nagasaki three days later on August 9th. This day serves as a reminder of the ongoing threats of nuclear weapons and nuclear power as well. In recognition of Hiroshima Day tomorrow, Jan Haaken talks with three educators from Chicago who developed a curriculum designed to teach students about the atomic bomb and its legacy for Asian-Americans. Joining Jan on the show are Laura Gluckman, a middle school teacher with Chicago Public Schools, Aiko Kojima Hibino, lecturer at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and Yuki Miyamoto, an ethicist professor whose work centers on nuclear discourse and environmental ethics. Their curriculum is titled The Paper Crane Project.
