Anatomy of an Epidemic: Magic Bullets, Psychiatric Drugs, and the Astonishing Rise of Mental Illness

Hosts Jay Thiemeyer and Jenny Westberg interview Robert Whitaker, author of the new book "Anatomy of an Epidemic: Magic Bullets, Psychiatric Drugs, and the Astonishing Rise of Mental Illness in America." Whitaker's previous book was "Mad in America."

Whitaker talks about learning that between 1987 and 2007 the number of Americans disabled due to mental illness more than doubled despite a huge annual psychotropic drug tab. When he probed into clinical studies in prestigious scientific journals he noticed a shocking anomaly. Psychiatric drugs have repeatedly been shown to worsen mental illness.

Whitaker speaks Thursday, August 19th @ 7:30pm Powell's City of Books on Burnside
1005 W Burnside
