Kristina Wong Blends Comedy and Activism in The Wong Street Journal
Host Pamela Santos talks to Kristina Wong about her one-woman-show The Wong Street Journal

The Guardian describes Kristina Wong:

"A third generation Chinese American originally from San Francisco, Wong...doesn’t just defy Asian stereotypes – she destroys them. Like Hari Kondabolu, Margaret Cho and Russell Peters, Wong’s irreverent critique of mainstream culture pushes the envelope about race. Her probing and provocative artistic pursuits don’t fit into neat little boxes..."

Host Pamela Santos talks to theatre artist and comedian Kristina Wong about her one-woman-show The Wong Street Journal. Kristina Wong created The Wong Street Journal after traveling to Northern Uganda and volunteering briefly with a local NGO dedicated to working with female entrepreneurs. In the piece, Wong lampoons her own armchair activism and plans a trip to Africa so she can leave a real legacy. When upon her arrival, Wong is not perceived as Asian-American but “muzungu” or “white-person,” this identity twist feeds the artist’s provocative yet self-deprecating sense of humor and informs her various adventures, including a foray into the world of Ugandan underground hip hop.

Boom Arts will present 7 performances of The Wong Street Journal at the Headwaters Theatre, 55 North Farragut Avenue, on October 13-23, 2016. Tickets can be purchased through Boom Arts’ web site at www.boomarts.org.
