Cory Doctorow

In this special hour-long episode, host Ken Jones talks with Cory Doctorow, author of the new science-fiction novel Walkaway.

In addition to his role as sci-fi novelist, Cory’s a technology activist, journalist, and blogger. His work includes the non-fiction book Information Doesn’t Want to Be Free, the novels Makers and Down and Out in the Magic Kingdom; the young adult novels Homeland, Pirate Cinema, and Little Brother; and, the graphic novel In Real Life.

Cory is a MIT Media Lab Research Affiliate, a Visiting Professor of Computer Science at Open University, co-founder of the UK Open Rights Group, and co-editor of the website Boing Boing,

One of my favorite quotes about Cory’s new novel comes from Edward Snowden, who wrote: “A dystopian future is no way inevitable; Walkaway reminds us that the world we choose to build, is the one we’ll inhabit.”

Note: We had to beep two words from the broadcast version, but restored those to the archived web version below. As a bonus, we're also posting Chapter 1 of the Walkaway audiobook (which would have required a whole lot of beeps if we aired it at 11am). You can buy the entire audiobook directly from Cory's website: http://craphound.com/shop/#walkaway
