HOST: Jack Bohl

April showers can bring flooding, or in the case of this year, more rain for the historically flooded upper Midwest.

We start off with social media accounts of the Great 1927 Mississippi River Flood, where the social media of the era was folk music- songs like Memphis Minnie's "When the Levee Breaks" and Blind Lemon Jefferson's "Rising High Water Blues".

April is also near the peak of tornado season in the U.S. so I included Guy Clark's great "Tornado Time in Texas". April is also tax time, hence Nickel Creek's furious take on the Beatles "Taxman".

The last set features a great voice new to me- Emily Elbert, with a beautiful medley of Turn, Turn, Turn/The Times They are a Changin'/We Shall Overcome". The finale is a wonderful African flavored original from the brand new "Songs of Our Native Daughters" CD featuring Rhiannon Giddens, Amethyst Kiah, Leyla McCalla, and Allison Russell.
