The findings of the Portland Police internal review into the death of James Chasse [CHA-see] were released today.  James Chasse was a musician and writer who died three years ago from injuries arising from his arrest by Portland Police.
The review found that the use of force by officers at his arrest did not violate policy and that one of the officers “knew or should have known that Mr. Chasse had suffered a serious physical injury.’
However it found that Sergeant Kyle Nice violated a police board directive that should have lead to Chasse being taken straight to hospital, rather than to the Jail.
KBOO’s Paul Munday talked to Jason Renaud of the Mental Health Association, a friend of Jason Chasse, and Dan Handleman of Portland Copwatch, for their reaction.
