Today on Radiozine, we feature an episode from the Women's International News Gathering Service (WINGS). Producer Melinda Tuhus travelled to Arizona, Mexico, and the desert between to interview refugees and good Samaritans about what asylum seekers are fleeing from, what they face on the trip north, who helps them, and the ordeal of applying for immigration status. Featured speakers: Debra Cohen, volunteer doing desert supplies dropoff; Katherine Rosa Smith, Site and Volunteer Coordinator at Catholic Community Services' refugee site in the monastery; Rocio Zamora. volunteer at the monastery, who orients new volunteers and gives a tour of the
facility; Shura, volunteer godmother to dozens of migrant children living temporarily in Nogales, Mexico; Barbara Lemmon, Samaritan volunteer and driver; refugees Nelson and Rosa, sheltered in Nogales.
