HOW IRANIAN WOMEN USE THE KORAN TO SUPPORT THEIR MOVMENT

Bill Resnick interviews Catherine Sameh, a former member of the Old Mole collective who now teaches sexuality, gender studies and history at the University of California, Irvine and writes about and supports the struggles of Iranian women. In this second part of a two part interview she describes how Iranian women are using Islamic scripture to contend for women's rights and their resemblance to Christian social justice fighters who call attention to the teachings of that radical Communist, known as Jesus Christ. The Iranian women are in fact making gains in a country that is––to be sure–– repressive, but it operates as a democratic paradise in comparison to Saudi Arabia and other Middle Eastern countries supported by the U.S.
