Three of the Northwest’s most dedicated poets and visionaries join host Barbara LaMorticella on Talking Earth. Jim Grabill, Chris Luna and Dan Raphael all have poetic fields that stretch far and deep in time and space. Tonight they treat us to a poetry call and response and a conversation about art and the world.
For over 4 decades dan raphael's been active in the Northwest as poet, performer, editor and reading host. He'll be reading from his 21st book, Manything, which came out this September form Unlikely Books. dan has performed his poetry in 117 different places in Portland. Most Wednesdays he writes and records a current events poem for The KBOO Evening News.
Christopher Luna has a MFA from the Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics. He is the co-founder of Printed Matter Vancouver, a Northwest small press that provides editing and coaching. He founded the popular Vancouver, WA reading series Ghost Town Poetry Open Mic in 2004. His first full-length collection, Message from the Vessel in a Dream, was published by Flowstone Press in 2018. He served as the first Poet Laureate of Clark County, WA from 2013-2017.
James Grabill has published ten books of poems, most recently two volumes of environmental prose poems, Sea Level Nerve: 1 (2014) and Sea Level Nerve II (2015), published by Wordcraft of Oregon. His poems appear online and in many journals, including Terrainonline, Calibanonline, Ginosko, and Sequestrum. He has chapbooks forthcoming from Finishing Line Press and Raw Art Review. Now retired, for many years he taught writing and global issues relative to sustainability in Portland, Oregon.
