From the Pacific NW Forest Climate Alliance:

Protecting Forests for the Climate Book Talk & Discussion -- Wednesday September 18th at 6pm
What role can the temperate rainforests of the PNW play in alleviating climate change, what challenges do they face as we confront the climate crisis, and how is the landscape of forest management shifting beneath our feet? Join Canopy of the Titans co-author Paul Koberstein, 350PDX Forest Climate Manager Brenna Bell, and PNWFCA Organizer Alex Budd for a panel discussion about the future of PNW and the climate, happening Wednesday September 18th in the Stevens Pavilion at the Hoyt Arboretum in PDX at 6pm. Paul will read from Canopy of the Titans, followed by a panel discussion about the timber industry, climate justice, and how the struggle to protect PNW forests is changing in the 21st century. This wide-ranging conversation will touch on carbon offsets, forest policy, wildfire, biomass, and more! Food & drink provided, bring a chair for yourself if you can. Here's a flyer you can share around.

Forests Over Profits Rally & False Climate Solutions Teach In -- Monday & Tuesday September 24th & 25th
The Wall Street investors driving the climate crisis and big timber corporations clearcutting PNW forests are coming to Portland for the annual “Who Will Own the Forest?” conference September 24-26. These big polluters hope to stall real climate action by pushing false climate solutions–like biomass & carbon offsets–to generate even more profit at the expense of communities, the climate and our forests. Last year saw a major mobilization with protests against the Wall Street takeover of PNW forests and a counter-conference highlighting real alternatives to profit-oriented management--it was so successful that the conference is rebranding this year to the less diabolically-sounding "Canopy: Forests + Markets + Society". On September 25th, join us at  the World Forestry Center at noon for a rally to confront these Wall Street elites and call out their false climate solutions. The rally will happen while the conference attendees are on their lunch break outside, so we need as many people as possible to come out and make sure they know that investing in greenwashing extractive forestry faces serious risks of community resistance!

Want to learn more about how big polluters are using false solutions to dodge accountability for their role in the climate crisis, and to extend their polluting business as usual? Come to the False Climate Solutions Teach-In on Tuesday, September 24th at the 350PDX Climate Justice Workshop, 3639 N. Mississippi. We're thrilled to be hosting speakers from Indigenous Environmental Network and the Pueblo Action Alliance/New Mexico No False Solutions Coalition for this event; you won't want to miss it! More info at https://forestsoverprofits.org/ There are flyers for both events you can share around to help spread the word here.
