As most scientists will tell you, climate change is a known threat to the environment, and all species of plant and animal life on earth. But it might be even worse than anticipated, according to Dr. Guy McPherson, an ecologist and evolutionary biologist, who coined the phrase "near-term human extinction". McPherson claims the human species could go extinct as soon as the year 2030, due to habitat loss and rapidly accelerating global warming.
Dr. McPherson will be speaking tonight in Portland on "Abrupt Climate Change in Cascadia" at The Waypost, 3120 N. Williams Avenue, The talk goes from 6:30 to 9pm, and admission is free.
We were fortunate to have Dr. McPherson live in the KBOO studios before his talk for a KBOO News In-Depth interview.
